Today we honour Hannie Schaft and with her all women who served in the resistance during the German occupation in World War II. In Heerhugowaard, a country town in the western part of the Netherlands, 21 streets have been named after some of the women, who took part in the resistance. A war memorial has been erected with the names of these 21 women who all perished in the concentration camps Ravensbrück and Auswitz. Whilst we will hold a roll call with the names of those 21 women, Elissa Klaassen, will hand out roses. Please feel free to collect a rose from Elissa and place the rose on one of the headstones.
